Engineering Manager - Electrical / Power Generation Newcastle £40-50k
This is a new role for an engineering manager to join an expanding and World Leading power generation company. The company is involved with the design and development of Steam Turbines and Electrical Generators. You will be an integral part of the Service Engineering team responsible for overseeing the design modifications, upgrades, technical activity, planning and management of the service / design team.
Reporting to the Chief Generator Engineer, this role involves the management of the generator design / service section and provision of a focal point for the engineering activities of the team. The team consists of 12 design engineers with mechanical and electrical backgrounds.
The role would suit a proven engineering manager with a strong electrical design background ideally gained within the power generation, heavy electrical plant or electrical machines industry. My client may also consider applicants with aerospace, rail or similar backgrounds if they have knowledge of electrical generators.
Key responsibilities will include:
” Prioritisation, allocation, monitoring and supervision of section workload
” Responsibility for technical content of work packages and consistent application of rules, tools and processes
” Planning and control of section budgets
” Execution of technical work packages, including design of components or Systems, sign off approvals and provision of technical recommendations and guidance
” Management and development of personnel within the section, including effective two way communication
” Promoting best practice, improvement initiatives and technical product/process development
” Working closely with customers to establish and overcome technical problems, present findings and solutions to customers and managers and provide a timely and cost effective upgrade solution
Skills / Education:
” Applicants will ideally have a degree or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Petrochemical engineering)
” Candidates would ideally have a strong technical ability in Engineering in a supervisory role. (Industrial Generators, electric motors, turbines, large pumps, rotating machinery, heavy electrical engineering etc)
” Successful candidates will have good technical, managerial and communication skills, with a strong focus on quality and customers, organised and able to manage a demanding workload
” You will have excellent people skills to be able to motivate, mentor and encourage your team to achieve business targets and to optimise their personal potential
” Good project engineering / management ability would be expected
